FAQs

What time do you serve food?

We serve food all day from 12pm until 10pm. The a la carte menu is for the restaurant and runs from 12pm until 4pm and 6pm until 10pm from Monday to Saturday, but for Sundays please note the longer lunch from 12pm until 5pm and 7pm until 10pm. The barbecue runs every day between March and October if the temperature is forecast to be above 14 degrees. It runs from 12pm right through until 10pm. We have a sandwich menu during the weekdays that runs from 12pm until 6pm.

Why can’t I reserve on Sundays?

For the Sunday lunch service in the restaurant we do not operate our usual reservation system. We simply use a first-come, first-served service, which means a quicker turn around for customers on tables and ensures that we are not needlessly holding tables for no-shows whilst turning away hopeful diners. The restaurant is open from 12pm and we take last orders for the kitchen at 4.55pm. We operate a waiting list in the restaurant and usually seat all guests. The waiting list does not apply to the bar – you can just grab tables as and when they become available.

Do you allow dogs?

We allow dogs in the bar and outside area but not in the restaurant. Dogs should be well behaved and stay on their lead.

If it rains can I move my reservation inside?

If it rains and you have an outside reservation, you can by all means come inside; we will not however have guaranteed tables for your reservation. It will fall subject to availability. All our reservations are specific to the areas required at the time of booking and we cannot provide backup space if the weather is to prove less fortunate.

Do you show sport?

We show major sporting tournaments on our large screen in the public bar (smaller front bar). This includes the Six Nations, Formula 1, Wimbledon, World Cup, Olympics etc. If you do want to watch something specific please ask the manager on duty and they will try their best to aid your request.

Do you have Sky?

We don’t have Sky. But we have a lot of beers, wines and spirits to make up for it…

Can I bring a cake?

We like nothing more than to help make your personal events truly special. If you would like to bring a cake then by all means do. Simply hand it to a member of staff on your arrival and they will keep it refrigerated for you, and if you bring candles we can bring the cake out to you lit and provide knives and plates.

Can I decorate my area/room?

If you would like to bring banners, balloons or some form of décor for your reservation that’s fine. We do ask that you don’t use Sellotape and that you bring all the items needed for the décor yourselves and fix up the space prior to your reservation.

When do you have music?

We have different music during the week. We have brilliant acoustic duos that perform on Sunday and Thursday evenings and sing classic anthems ranging from the 1950s up to the present day. For our regularly updated events listings please visit http://www.theship.co.uk/events.php

Can I moor my boat outside?

You would not be the first. We have many customers who avoid the London traffic and pay us a visit by boat. Mooring spaces are subject to availability.

Where can I park?

We do not have a car park and Jews Row has pay and display parking weekdays from 9.30am until 4.30pm. Just around the corner, next door to the Virgin Active gym and opposite the Holiday Inn, there is a NCP car park. It’s only a 2-minute walk from us.

How do I get there by train?

Our nearest BR overground is Wandsworth Town train station, which is just a 5-minute walk away. Simply come out of the station and turn left and you will be approaching a busy roundabout. Cross over towards the McDonald’s and behind you will see Jews Row between the Mercedes garage and bus depot. We are at the end, on the riverside.

By Bus?

Bus numbers 44, 28, 295, C3 all pass near the Ship with stops on the roundabout. Most pass through or nearby Clapham Junction.

Underground?

The nearest underground stations are not close. East Putney and Parson’s Green are the nearest, both roughly a 20-30 minute walk from us.

Do you allow children?

Children are allowed at all times of the day as long as accompanied and supervised by adults.

What food can you do for children?

We have a children’s menu which offers dishes such as pasta, fish and chips, chicken breast with vegetables and sausage and mash. Just ask your server if you would to see the menu.

Do you have vegetarian options?

We make sure that there are always vegetarian options on the menu. We vary these options to make sure vegetarians get the same innovation and variety as other diners. Occasionally the vegetarian options may suit vegans, but we cannot always guarantee we will be able to cater for vegans.

Gluten free etc?

If you have special dietary requirements then please do let us know in advance so that we can prepare some delicious meals which you will enjoy while you are here. If you are a coeliac please do notify your server and they will talk you through which dishes are gluten-free.

Can I have a morning meeting at The Ship?

Unfortunately we no longer take reservations for morning or afternoon meetings, as our function rooms are solely for dining.

Do you have a room for private dining?

We have two function rooms for private dining. The smaller room seats up to 15 guests. It carries a minimum spend of £500 including an advance £100 deposit from Monday to Wednesday, and £600 Thursday to Sunday with a £100 deposit. The larger room seats up to 25 guests. The minimum spend is £600 including an advance deposit of £200 from Monday to Wednesday, and £800 with a £200 deposit Thursday to Sunday. We do not book either function room for Sunday lunch, but we do book them for dinner service on Sunday nights from 7pm; the only exception to this is the bank holiday Sunday evening, when we don’t run a restaurant service at all.

Do you take bar reservations?

We reserve the corner table in the main bar which seats up to 15 but all the other tables are first-come, first-served on the night to allow for walk-ins. The only day we take more than one bar reservation is a Wednesday evening for the weekly in-house quiz. We can also reserve all the tables in our public bar for you for parties of 25-60 on every day except Sunday, and there is no hire fee or minimum spend.
